Getting Started
To request a book in I-Share, you need to find a specific copy of it in the system.
This page covers the three steps you need to do:
Step 1: Search for a book
Step 2: Select a copy
Step 3: Request a copy
Other Sources
There are two other tools you can use to find books and other library resources: the IIT Catalog and the library's Interlibrary Loan Service.
Like this I-Share request process, you can also request books to be delivered from other IIT Library locations. Like this page, look for the "request" button in the IIT Catalog:

If you can't find what you need at the IIT Libraries or through I-Share, the Interlibrary Loan program can help you get books from other libraries.

Step 1 - Search For A Book
To request an item through I-Share, you will need to use the I-Share Catalog to search for a title you want until you get to a specific item page.
The I-Share Catalog "Classic Search" works the same way as the IIT Library Catalog:
The Library Catalog guide instructions, from basic searching to searching for authors, titles, or by ISBN, also work here.
Step 2 - Select a Copy
After a search, you may see a list of "short records" - you'll need to click on one title to get to to a full record. You'll only see the "request" button appear at the top when you're at a "full record" screen.

Step 3 - Request Book
You'll need to login with information from your official Chicago-Kent, Stuart, or IIT ID card:

If you don't have a card, you'll need to speak to the registrar's office to get one.
Here's where the login information goes:

Click "OK" on the next screen - even though it looks like you can choose from a list here, this is your only option.

That will bring you to the last screen, where you'll need to enter your ID number again (but not your name).
If you want to pick up your request at the Downtown Campus Library, be sure to select that location (Galvin is the main campus library):

You can also choose to pick up the book at another I-Share library if you live near one and find that more convenient. You can find a map of Chicago-area I-Share libraries here. Just choose a different library than "Illinois Institute of Technology" from the "Pick-up Library" drop-down list.
Most requests take about a week to process, but it will depend on the staff situation at the library where you request it and the delivery system. How long you can keep it will depend on the circulation policies of the library that is sending it. You can find links to their websites and other contact information here if you want to check ahead of time.
You will receive an e-mail when your book arrives, but if you want to check on the status yourself, you can use the "My Account" feature, which is the next step in this guide.
