Getting Started
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service we offer to borrow books or get copies of articles not available through the IIT Libraries or the I-Share System.
This service is available to all current DTC students, full-time faculty, and adjuncts who are currently teaching classes at the Downtown Campus. We do not provide any interlibrary loan services to the public.
On this page you can learn how to:
ILL Disclaimer
Note: We cannot borrow textbooks, commercial outlines, archival papers, most dissertations, popular fiction, movies, and other non-scholarly works.
Articles from newspapers or journals that are available through one of our e-resources are also not eligible for interlibrary loan.

Before You Place a Request...
Our local search tools are faster than Interlibrary Loan:
The IIT Catalog shows all the books and journals on our shelves and has links to many of our online journals.
The A-Z Journal List has links for journals available online through our databases (excludes Lexis).
The I-Share Catalog allows you to request books from 75+ academic libraries in Illinois.
If you are not sure where to start your search, a reference librarian can help you. Visit our
Ask a Librarian page for hours and contact information.
Make a Request
If you have a complete citation:
To make an ILL Request, you can login to our ILL Request Page using your Chicago-Kent email or Stuart network password, or e-mail illreq@kentlaw.edu
If you're starting in a library database
You can browse library databases by topic on our Library E-Resources page, or contact a librarian to find the best place to start your search:
Ask a Librarian
When you're browsing a database, look for this button if you don't see a full text option to request it via Interlibrary Loan:

You can also check if we have the journal on our shelves at that link, or use this link to get to the interlibrary loan form:

If you need to find information about a book or an article:
Worldcat is a library database that can search thousands of libraries around the world. It is available in any IIT Library and also through our remote access login.
After you do a search in Worldcat and are looking at the full description of an item, look for the "Get This Item" section at the top of this page and click on the "Borrow this item from another library" link to have it fill in the information for an ILL Request:

Checking Requests Online
You can check the status of any requests you have placed by logging into your ILL account through this form. If you still have questions, send an e-mail to illreq@kentlaw.edu (the address is the same for Stuart and Kent users).
Please be aware that ILL requests typically require up to two weeks to fill. Please submit requests for materials well in advance of your deadline. You will be notified via email when your item arrives or if the library cannot obtain a copy of the article or book you requested.
Picking up your Request
We will notify you via e-mail when your ILL Request arrives, sending article requests to you as pdf files. Book requests will be available at the Circulation Desk for students and adjunct faculty or will be delivered directly to faculty offices. If you have any questions about this process, you can send an e-mail to illreq@kentlaw.edu.
Renewing ILL Requests
Photocopies obtained via ILL may be kept. Books must be returned to the library by the marked due date. Renewal requests can be made using this form or by sending an email to illreq@kentlaw.edu. Requests for renewals must be submitted at least 2 (two) days before the due date.
NOTE: Renewals requests are granted or denied according to the policies of the lending library. We cannot guarantee your item will be renewed. If the item is not renewed, you need to return it by the original due date or you may be fined.
Order in Advance!
The speed of this service depends on several factors, including the librarians on each end and the delivery methods (mail vs. fax or e-mail).
Please keep in mind most requests take 2 days to process and can take at least 2 weeks to arrive. You can check the status online (see below).
